It took about 7 cans of primer and 7 cans of black satin spray paint ( both Valspar) from Lowe's.
I'm debating putting on a wipe on polyurethane finish, I have the bottle, just haven't tested a spot yet. It's amazing what a change of COLOR can do!
Your dining set didn't look bad before you painted it. The fabric sure pops more though with that darker color. You did a great job...and who doesn't love toile? Red and white toile, blue and white toile, black and creme. I have even seen brown and creme. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe black is just so much more in sync with the fabric on the chair seats. So glad you had the vision to do this. Well done.

Now, I have to know how you did that. Did you sand first? I would love to do this to my old oak table and chairs. I have always been to chicken. I love the way that looks. I would love to get the courage to do it. How do you think it will hold up?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, love it!

whoa! it looks sooo much better :) nice job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference paint makes! The set looks completely different and so much better. I am trying to work up the courage to paint my table and chairs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Melanie! I love it!
ReplyDeleteBrooke - I didn't sand anything because there was too much detail in the chairs. I gave them a good wipedown with a mild cleanser (basic H from shaklee, any wood cleaner would work), then I put on 2 separate coats of primer as well as 2 separate coats of black. I'm really hoping long term it holds up well! It definitely will if you put a top coat of polyurethane on it - I haven't had good luck at applying that stuff with a brush so I'm going to try the "wipe-on" and see how it does.
